This  is a word from Pastor Timothy Burdick, Minister of Abilities for Friday Study Ministries:

God's Flying School

"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" (Isaiah 40:31)

Have you ever felt like just giving up? You might be going through something right now, so difficult that you are asking yourself, “What’s the use?” Let me tell you something that happened to me. I was in a homeless shelter for a short time, and felt like the bottom had dropped out of my world. One day a tough man who was supervising the shelter, saw me for the first time. My blindness was a novelty in that shelter, and he said that I shouldn’t be there. “Like I Really have a choice,” I thought. I felt even further down in the dumps, but hung in there.

While each and every one of us has problems, let’s look at the above verse with an eye to making these problems more manageable. Like it is in the King James Version, I would like to use the word "wait" in place of the word "hope" in our verse for today. Start out your new direction in soaring "on wings like eagles" by "waiting." Many people think of waiting as merely a passive term, but in the Bible, waiting is an active way of life which all of us can practice. For one thing, Biblical waiting upon God simply means seeking His guidance and direction about whatever you are facing right now.

If you have ever felt weak and knocked down by life, God further promises that another result of this waiting on Him will be a renewal of your strength. Just as you plug in a cell phone when it is dead to charge it, not being plugged into a relationship with God is a form of spiritual death. For the Christian who does know Him, however, the Bible does say that unconfessed sin can also leave us as powerless as an uncharged battery.

In addition to looking directly to the Lord, another way that we can plug into this power is by studying God’s word. The Bible tells us in places like 2 Timothy 2:15, that we are to continually renew our minds by this means.

Through constant obedience to God in these areas, we find ourselves surmounting the obstacles in our path, soaring above them in the power and love of God. This does not mean that life will be a bed of roses, but it does mean we will experience a new joy that cannot be shaped by circumstances, and a new resiliency to bounce back when life throws us a curve ball.
