His Strength and Power
By Pastor Timothy Burdick
“Then Moses
said unto the Lord, 'Oh my Lord, I am not
eloquent, neither before nor since You have
spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of
speech, and slow of tongue” (Exodus
4:10)
Too
many people have been told that because of
some disability they may have, they simply
don’t have a place in God’s service. That is
just not true. While you may have to do
things differently because of that
disability, the differences you have may fit
perfectly into God’s plan for reaching
others.
Don’t
listen to well-meaning people who tell you
that you can’t do what God has told you to
do.
But
there is another side to this coin. Moses
was to become one of the greatest leaders of
all time and also he was a "type" of Christ
- someone who shows us something of the
nature of the Christ who was to come. Yet,
Moses the man had a speech impediment and
gave God all kinds of reasons why he
shouldn’t lead the people. These were
excuses that made God angry. Like Moses, do
you give reasons why you can’t do something
because of some disability in your life?
Like Moses, God has something in mind for
this world that only you can accomplish. You
are "fearfully and
wonderfully made," just as David was
(Psalm 139:14).
Because
I am blind, I have had to learn to
concentrate on the abilities God has given
me and not dwell what I can’t do.
Furthermore, I have had to try and listen to
God instead of man. If you are honestly
trying to do something is God's will, He
will give you all the reasons why you can
accomplish it, and He will bring it to pass.
God is
full of acceptance and love. I hope that you
will listen to Him as He speaks to you in
verses eleven and twelve of Exodus 4 - “The Lord said unto (Moses), 'who has made man’s
mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the
seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord?
Now therefore go, and I will be with your
mouth, and teach you what you shall say.'”
Whatever your disability may be, God is
telling you today that you can go in HIS
strength and power. He is also telling you
that He will be with you, and that He has a
plan for your life.
He has
given you gifts that are unique to your
situation and if you will allow Him to, He
will empower you to use them. Just as Moses
had to decide weather to obey God or not, He
is calling for you and I to do the same. For
in Christ you can conquer. He made you the
way you are to give Him glory.
