True Greatness
By Pastor Timothy Burdick
Have you ever wanted to
do something great with your life? Well, I
guess we all have. Jesus tells us how to
accomplish this in Mark 10:43-44 - “Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires
to become great among you shall be your
servant. And whoever of you desires to be
first shall be slave of all.”
You have heard people
say, "If you want to become great, follow
your dreams." While a person should follow
their dreams if the desire has been put in
his or her heart by God, the definition of
greatness that came from the lips of Jesus
wasn’t about dreams, but all about
servanthood.
Servanthood is all
about being a giver, rather than asking: How
can I get my needs met? A servant stands in
the shadows, helping and encouraging the one
receiving the reward. For the true servant
of God, knows that we are all on the same
team, with all the glory ultimately going to
the Master.
Get a piece of paper,
and write down what I call "servant goals."
In other words, write down how you can serve
others. Then list ways you can make those
goals happen. And finally, ask God to open
doors so that you can put these goals into
action.
As you do this, it may
not seem like you are making a difference.
But don’t give up, nothing is too small as
an action. I remember small acts of kindness
that I have encountered which have changed
the course of my life forever.
