Are You A Seeker?
by Pastor Timothy Burdick
"O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water" (Psalm 63:1)
Please compare this with James 4:8 - "Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world."
We all choose to seek after something whether it be pleasure, prosperity or prestige. But just as being obsessed with worldly gain is a lifestyle, seeking God is also a way of life. Many do not want to seek God, however, because of fear that He cannot meet our needs or that He will send us to someplace like the darkest parts of some other continent. While the heart of mankind is not satisfied unless it is seeking something, many times our earthly "treasure" only camouflages our need for God. Many times we seek temporal pleasures, that we think will fill the eternal void in our hearts, using our time and talents to chase the wind.
But I would ask you, how can we really satisfy this eternal need with mere temporal toys? For example, if your car needs a specialized part, you might have to contact the factory. I would propose that it is only logical for us to contact the Maker and Author of life. The One who made us knows us best.
Today then, I would encourage you to seek God no matter what you are going through. When I have felt like I could not go on, God has met me right where I am, and He is longing to do the same for you. The Bible says that He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, and that means He has your best in mind. Having said this, I would challenge you to stop looking to earthly things to meet your deepest needs. Pour out your heart to God today, and let Him begin to walk with you through the valleys of life.
Thank you for reading this, and May God bless you.
