Earle Wesley Beckham
1910 – 1987

Husband of Adele Nilson Beckham and father of Pastor Ron Beckham.  His varied career included: Asst. Golf Pro of the Augusta, Maine Country Club.  He went on the golf pro circuit, finally going broke in the “other Augusta” (Georgia), and from there worked his way back to Maine.  He was a radio announcer and singer on the radio station in Augusta, Maine, where Adele Nilson was the pianist – Earle and Adele met at that station and subsequently married in 1935.  Earle Beckham became an engineer at the shipyard in Portland, Maine, but his career as an engineer was stopped by the Great Depression and he worked as a barber during the remainder of those difficult years.  He moved his family to Long Beach, California, as World War II started and worked at Douglas Aircraft, where he was an Aerospace Engineer and at one time was in charge of 500 men.  Earle designed the tail assembly of the C-124 and participated in the design of the Apollo space capsule.  He played the violin during his early years and, after retirement, learned to play the organ, becoming proficient to the point where he gave lessons and was President of the Hammond Organ Club.
